So it has been six months again, and whether you are ready or not, it is time for another dental exam. Some individuals may experience a fear of going to the dentist. In order to ensure you are prepared for what lies ahead, here’s what to expect when you go in for an exam.
During a checkup visit, you will probably see two professionals: your dentist, and the dental hygienist on staff. The hygienist is there to check your gums and teeth, to talk to you about caring for your gums and teeth, and to provide you with a cleaning and polishing. You get your teeth cleaned because there are some hard to reach areas of your mouth that only a professional may be able to get out. After your cleaning, your teeth will be polished and then you’ll be ready to get you x-rays!
X-rays are done to show your dentist what the inside of your teeth are hiding. They are able to monitor the cavities hidden underneath your teeth and prep you for whatever type of procedures they have to deal with. After x rays, you meet with your dentist, and they let you know what procedure you ultimately need to get done!
Often times, your dentist schedules you another time to undergo those procedures, especially if there is more than one!
